Nathan, I am posting your reply here so that we will have an eventual smooth dialogue of posts. I will walk you through the system soon…..xo
Mizu,
Indeed the seeds were planted long ago for this project. I also feel very inspired from our conversation. I am reminded of a conversation on a porch in Prescott almost twelve years ago with Bill, Breanna, yourself and I all dreaming of a way of working creatively with dance to connect more deeply to this place we all share as a home. This project seems like an important milestone in a collective dream we are all involved in.
I also feel the energy around our decision to collaborate as a very positive step. Of course we know each other well enough to have a clear picture of how we work together and in this sense it seems realistic to me that we can create something powerful and unique. I know we share in this desire to uncover a new Butoh here in America. And I know we share the understanding that it is connected to our landscapes, our heritage and our bodies.
I will be going into the Rockies this weekend to spend some solo time in the Mountains. The Aspens will be changing color and fall setting into the high country. For me, this is the real studio. By developing and maintaining this connection with wilderness outside I find I am more able to access the wilderness inside. Which is the essence of Butoh is it not?
Is it possible to lead our audiences into the wilderness by dancing? America was founded on this desire to find a new frontier. Where is the frontier now? Is there still a place that is wild and untamed? Maybe the last frontier is inside?
these are just a few questions that come to mind as we begin this dialogue.
