The American Butoh Project is a collaborative cultural dance exploration directed by Mizu Desierto and Nathan Montgomery. Inspired by the wild west, in both its natural and human histories, the project’s mission is to travel, dance and discover a new sense of America and of Butoh.
The project will officially commence at the start of 2010 with a small group of committed American artists. We will begin our research through immersive studio residencies coupled with site specific explorations–both urban and natural. One of our intentions is to utilize the medium of film, recording our dances with various landscapes and people.
